| Q: How should I water my new lawn? | |
| A: 24 hours after your lawn is hydro-seeded you will need to begin watering it. As a general guideline water it three times a day, fifteen minutes per time for the first three weeks. It should be kept moist but if you see puddles you are watering too much. Once the grass is 2½ to 3 inches high, cut back the watering to once a day in the morning, thirty minutes per time. At that point the lawn requires approximately one inch of water per week, depending on the soil. | |
| Q: When should I fertilize my lawn? | |
| A: Every three to four weeks you should apply a fast-release nitrogen fertilizer (19-19-19). In the fall (mid-September to mid-October) fertilize with a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer. | |
| Q: Some areas of my lawn have straw matting on them. Will I have to remove it? | |
| A: You do not have to do anything with the matting. Your lawn will grow over it and eventually it will safely decompose. | |
| Q: What do I do if I notice some weeds or unhealthy-looking areas in my lawn? | |
| A: It is normal for a few weeds to appear and typically they will be choked out by your lawn as it grows. Treatment for broad-leaf weeds should not be applied until the lawn has been mowed at least six times and preferably during the cooler temperatures of spring or fall. Grass-type weeds such as crab grass can be treated by pre-emergent weed products and these should not be applied to your lawn until the next spring. For any disease or insect problem call us first. Most diseases will go away naturally as the lawn grows, the weather conditions change, and the fertilizer and watering is adjusted. | |
| Q: What should I do about sparse, bare, soggy or washed-out areas in my lawn? | |
| A: Give us a call and we will evaluate the situation. Re-seeding or improved drainage may be required. | |
| Q: I have a French drain in my yard. Will the stone always be visible? | |
| A: Eventually the grass in your lawn will grow over the stone. The drain is designed for this and will continue to perform its function. |
